Local Schools Launch After-School STEM Program for Underserved Youth
A new partnership between the school district and tech companies brings hands-on coding and robotics to students who need it most.
Five elementary and middle schools in the district's lowest-income zones will offer free after-school coding and robotics programs starting next month, thanks to a new public-private partnership.
The initiative, called TechBridge, pairs trained instructors with students in grades 4 through 8 for two-hour sessions three days a week. Equipment and materials are provided at no cost to families.
Funding comes from a consortium of four local technology companies, who collectively committed $1.8 million over three years. The district is contributing staff time and facilities.
"We want every kid in this city to have access to the skills that will define the economy of the future," said TechBridge co-founder Aisha Mensah.
