We believe every community deserves a platform that understands its history, speaks its languages, and reflects its values. Hirola is that platform: built from within the community, for the community.
From Mogadishu to Minneapolis, Nairobi to Oslo, our 250,000 members connect daily across news, culture, diaspora life, and the issues that matter most to East African families around the world.

Why Hirola?
The hirola antelope (Beatragus hunteri) is one of the world's most critically endangered mammals, native to the border region between Kenya and Somalia. Also known as the 'four-eyed antelope' for its large, distinctive scent glands, the hirola is found nowhere else on Earth.
In Somali pastoralist tradition, the hirola holds deep spiritual significance — a symbol of good fortune for herders and their livestock. Sighting one is considered a blessing.
We chose this name because it carries the weight of that heritage: rare, resilient, rooted in the land between Kenya and Somalia, and deeply meaningful to the communities we serve. Like the antelope, Hirola the platform is something worth protecting and nurturing.
